The home improvement loan is an advance of funds that can be granted by the Caisse d’Allocations Familiales (CAF) to its beneficiaries without means conditions, so that they can undertake repair work, improvement, sanitation or thermal insulation on a dwelling they own or rent.
Can I benefit from the Habitat Improvement Loan?
CAF may grant the PAH to any owner or tenant of a home to whom it pays one of his family benefits, such as:
- The birth bonus;
- Old-age allowance for stay-at-home parents;
- The recovery of maintenance payments;
- Basic, back to school, parental or family support allowances.
Complementary family, free choice of activity or mode of care also give access. On the other hand, benefits such as the activity premium, the RSA or the ALS, APL, AAH are not sufficient to obtain this loan. The work undertaken can be carried out directly by the beneficiary or by a third party company, but these must fall within the specified scope (repair, improvement, sanitation or thermal insulation). This includes the repair of the roof or the upgrading of the electrical installation but excludes especially maintenance work such as wallpapers.
What are the amounts of the sums awarded?
The loan provides a total amount covering up to 80% of the planned expenditure, however capped at 1067.14 $. The funds will be obligatorily paid on the same account as the family allowance received, in two times: The first at the signature of the contract starting the work, the amount then being evaluated thanks to an estimate. The second after the completion of the work, upon presentation of the invoice. Attention, you must present this one at the latest six months after the signature of the contract under penalty of having to repay immediately the balance! The Habitat Improvement Loan is granted at the symbolic rate of 1%, and must be repaid in equal monthly installments for 36 months after the signature of the contract.
How to subscribe to the Habitat Improvement Loan?
To subscribe to the Habitat Improvement Loan, you must send a completed application form to your CAF. You can withdraw the form on site or download it online at this address. Also attach to your submission the following documents:
- A copy of the building permit if applicable;
- If you do the work yourself, a copy of the quotes from the materials suppliers;
- If you have the work done by a contractor, a copy of the detailed specifications drawn up by him;
- If you are a tenant, also include an authorization from the owner;
- If you own, the declaration of work.
You can make several requests for different jobs even if you already have a Home Improvement Loan. On the other hand, the files are not systematically accepted and the credits are limited.
Finally, if your family quotient is less than 1000 $ and you are eligible for a Habitat Improvement Loan, you can contract with CAF a Housing Improvement Loan for the same amount. but paid in full at the signing of the contract and without interest.
